Meet the Writer
I am an independent LGBTQ contemporary novelist and business writing consultant. I have self-published a fiction series, The Bow, and a self-help book, Coping With Transitional Milestones. I have a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management & Entrepreneurship, and a Religious Studies degree.
I served as a Christian minister for nearly a decade before switching to secular coaching and leadership. I’ve also worked in corporate management for several Fortune 500 organizations as an accounting manager, where I developed teams, led process change initiatives, and wrote several process manuals.
I use this experience and my writing talent to write and publish materials through novels and HiJayAdvice.com, a blog that gives life-coaching advice on topics affecting LGBTQ young adults.
I’ve consulted on business copywriting topics such as law, technology, accounting and finance, and travel. I am a Poynter-ACES certified editor and a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association. I am also a proud brother of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.

My Mission
“I use words to make people feel better about themselves. I use words to help them understand things that are not so obvious. I use words to make a difference. I use words…”
My Story
When I am asked, “Which of my characters in The Bow are based on me? ” My response is, “All of them!” From Orlando’s charming bad-boy ways to Tyler’s super smarts and Brandon’s gullibility, their thoughts and feelings were products of my own at some point in my life.
Brandon, the Libra, represents my emotional self, my true consciousness. As a young adult, I was a hopeless romantic who wanted and still wants to believe the very best in people. I also represent my undying desire to please my family by being someone they could accept until I eventually learned they did anyway.
Tyler, the Sagittarian, represents my
perseverance, ambition, and over-achieving spirit. He also represents my fears and how, for years, I let them shrink me from who I desired to be.
Orlando, the Scorpion, represents my ego. He embodies my masculine nature. He wants to be like one of the guys. He’s a charming playboy of sorts, powerful and wealthy – a sexual Adonis who is quick-witted and charming and always gets the guy he wants. He is attractive, physically and metaphysically. He is brilliant, crafty, and manipulative but has a bold and cold honesty with an angry vein that should never be played with or crossed unless you feel the fire of his wrath.
He is misunderstood because of his traumas, but he does a horrible job of getting people to empathize with his bullshit. He doesn’t even understand his traumas fully. He represents the side of me I suppress the most because I had to learn how to display him in a way others can accept. He is the character most of my readers communicate they do not like. To get this reaction means that I have done my job as a writer.
My parents never threw me away, but my childhood as a gay boy was hard on me. The story Brandon shares of his experience in elementary was an exact depiction of my own experience of being bullied in the 4th grade, a very dark period of my childhood. Entering adulthood did not fare any better as I spent the majority of my 20s in search of a phantom from whom I was running, myself. In The Bow II, Brandon has difficulty adjusting to adulthood because he is unsure of what to do with his life. In exchange, he throws himself into his relationship, only to discover he does not get back the same intensity. Then, he is left to deal with his emptiness and then makes dangerous decisions with his life. That is all me, but I have creatively crafted the fiction to exaggerate most of it. This is the strength of a good writer. I hope my craft resonates with my audience in a way that helps them believe they can overcome anything. Just Be!
